Javeria Younes belongs to a middle class orthodox family where educating girls is akin to watering neighbours tree. Professional education was unheard of in her family where girls were normally married off as soon as they finished high school. Javeria decided to pursue career in law, against the wishes of her extended family.Her parents support propelled her to Hamdard Law school where she was taught by legal stalwarts like Justice ( R ) Nasir Aslam Zahid, Justice (R) Wajih ud Ahmed, Justice (R) Shaiq Usmani and jurist par excellence Advocate Akmal Waseem.
Javeria was married when she had a year left to complete her LLB she fortunately had the support of her husband Talha Khalid who helped her complete her education. after completing her education Javeria joined Awan Raza Associates as corporate arbitration associate.
As she had two son within as many years she had to leave her full time job to be at home with her kids. Javeria continued to work from her home and contributed blogs and articles on legal issue at several national and international blogs. In 2014 she worked on Pakisatn’s first detail study on Custodial torture titled “Custodial torture its ramifications and failure of institutions”. The study was conducted in five major cities of the country and was hailed as the best in dept study by the “DIGNITY” an NGO based in Denmark.
She also vital role to prepare drafts of “Torture bill 2014” and “Sindh Police Act 2015”
Since she has been associated with Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) Hong Kong which holds General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
Javeria has also written Asia’ first manual on torture titled “Let’s stop torture togeter ( in urdu and english) which helps the victim in seeking medical, legal and psychiatric aid the manual has been translated in Nepalese and Burmese language
She regularly contributes articles and blog to several national and international weekly such as express Tribune, SL guardian, Counter Current India, Courting the law Pakistan etc.
She has been associates with many local NGOs such as Blue veins, PODA, Peace and Justice Network, Insaaf network Pakistan etc.
